Mary Ann (1) Harrison was born in 1862 to parents Michael (2) Harrison and his first wife Mary (nee Dibley) [Birth Index: Basingstoke 2c ...(page unclear), 1862 (Sept) - indexed as "Mary"]. She was christened as "Marianne" at Mapledurwell on October 26th 1862 [IGI: Batch I017228]. Census records render her forename(s) in various ways.

She was with her widowed father in the 1871 Census.

The 1881 Census finds her aged "18" living in Winchester Road, Basingstoke in the household of an upholsterer James Poulter where she was occupied as a general servant.

In 1889 she married a gardener William Horne [Marriage Index: Guildford 2a 131, 1889 (June)]. He was born in the Normandy/Worplesdon area of Surrey around early 1863 [Birth Index: Guildford 2a 42, 1863 (March)].

The 1891 Census finds them with no children living at 48, Colmer Road in Streatham, London where William was occupied as a gardener.

The 1901 Census finds them, still with no children, living at 178, Sunnyhill Road in Streatham where William was again occupied as a gardener. Also present was their nephew Herbert Churcher, the son of Mary Ann (1)'s deceased sister Jane (1), aged "25" and occupied as a domestic gardener.
