Brief biography

Eliza Ann (1) Hogger was born in 1852 to parents Peter (1) Hogger and his second wife Eliza (nee) Halls [Birth Index: Cosford 4a 373, 1852 (Dec)]. She was christened on December 25th 1852 at Brent Eleigh [PR: Cosford DB].

The 1861 Census finds her at age "8" living with her widowed mother at a beerhouse in Brent Eleigh.

The 1871 Census finds her at age "18" living in the household of a carpenter Thomas Bowers in Brent Eleigh Street, Brent Eleigh where she was occupied as a housekeeper.

In 1875 she married Frederick William Starling [Marriage Index: Cosford 4a 703, 1875 (Sept)]. They married on September 12th 1875 at Brent Eleigh; his father was named as Robert William Starling; the witnesses were Eliza Ann (1)'s great-aunt Catherine (1) (nee Hogger) Cundy and James Ramplin whose connection is unknown [PR: Cosford DB]. Frederick William was christened on August 8th 1852 at St. Mary-the-Virgin-at-the-Walls in Colchester, Essex [IGI: Batch J120111], his mother being named as Mary Anne.

The 1881 Census finds them living at Burlington Road, Colchester Holy Trinity where Frederick William was occupied as a coachman.

The 1891 Census finds them living at 18, Burlington Road in Colchester where Frederick William was now occupied as an ostler.

The 1901 Census finds them living at Sudbury House in Holland Road, Great Clacton, Essex where Frederick William was occupied once again as a coachman.

It is not known where or when she or her husband died.
