Brief biography

Jesse (2) was born around early 1868 to parents Spencer Hall(s) (1) Hogger and his wife Ann Nunn [Birth Index: Cosford 4a 453, 1868 (March)]. He was christened on February 16th 1868 at Brent Eleigh [PR: Cosford DB].

The 1871 Census finds him at age "3" living with his parents in Brent Eleigh Street, Brent Eleigh.

The 1881 Census finds him at age "13" living with his parents in Shimpling Street, Shimpling.

The 1891 Census finds him at age "23" still living with his parents in Shimpling Street and occupied as a carpenter.

By 1900 he had moved to Surrey. In that year he married Elizabeth Newcombe [Marriage Index: Wandsworth 1d 671, 1900 (March)]. She was born in Horsebridge near Tavistock in Devon in 1860 [Birth Index: Tavistock 5b 351, 1860 (Dec)].

The 1901 Census finds him at age "33" living with his wife at 2, Priory Terrace, Mortlake in Surrey where he was occupied as a wheelwright. He was living near - and possibly working with - his cousin Samuel Peter (1).

The 1911 Census finds him at age "43" living with his wife at the Estate Cottage, Lytchett Minster in Dorset where he was occupied as an estate carpenter. Elizabeth was aged "49". Their form states that they had produced no children.

Jesse (2) died aged "60" in 1927 [Death Index: Poole 5a 286, 1927 (Dec)] and was buried on December 27th at Lytchett Minster.

The National Register for England and Wales 1939 finds Elizabeth widowed and still living at the Estate Cottage in Lytchett Minster; her birthdate is given as December 1st 1860; a young Lewis family was also living there.

Elizabeth died aged "84" in 1945 [Death Index: Poole 5a 256, 1945 (Dec)]. Her probate entry gives her date of death as October 28th 1945 and her address as the Estate Cottage. Her effects were valued at just over £1,132 and probate was granted on January 23rd 1946 to two persons apparently unrelated to her.
