Brief biography

Joseph (1) Hogger was almost certainly born to William (11) Hogger and his wife Mary (nee) How, being christened at Old Newton on June 3rd 1701 [PR: Old Newton ; IGI: Batch 8632591]. This is the only plausible christening record for him in the surviving Suffolk parish registers.

He married Susan (nee) Lingwood on January 30th 1728 at Brent Eleigh [PR: Cosford DB]. The IGI incorrectly cites the year as 1720. This marriage marks the earliest appearance of a Hogger in Brent Eleigh or its environs. Brent Eleigh is situated twelve miles south-west of Old Newton, which itself lies about three miles north of Stowmarket.

The date and location of Joseph (1)'s death are unknown. His wife Susan was buried on July 27th 1748 at Brent Eleigh [PR: Cosford DB].
