Brief biography

William (11) Hogger's origins are unknown, but he may have been born at Old Newton in the period 1650-65. However, there are no surviving baptism records for Old Newton dating prior to 1677. The surname had existed in the village much further back - a "Fran Hoggar" married Jane Goddard there in 1592 [IGI: Batch 8630431] and a "Willelmus Hogger" of Newton had his Will proved on March 6th 1487 [Calendar of Pre-reformation Wills, Bury St. Edmunds, Ed. Vincent B. Redstone, 1907].

William (11) married Mary (nee) How on May 13th 1683 at Old Newton [PR: Old Newton ; IGI: Batch 8630431].

He and Mary apparently produced the children listed below [PR: Old Newton]. Their son Joseph (1) married in Brent Eleigh in 1728. Prior to that date there were no Hoggers in Brent Eleigh or in any of its neighbouring parishes.
