George (5) Livesey

Brief biography

George (5) was born in Manchester around 1861 to parents Matthew (2) Livesey and his wife Mary Taws. His GRO birth reference may be [Birth Index: Manchester 8d 249, 1861 (Sept)]. He was christened at Manchester Cathedral on August 25th 1861 [IGI: Batch C073545].

The 1871 Census finds him at age "10" living with his parents at 43, Fielden Street in the St. George district of Manchester.

The 1881 Census finds him at age "19" living his parents at 31, Silver Street in the Newton district of Manchester, and occupied as a shopman.

In the 1880s he married a woman named Elizabeth whose maiden name is not yet confirmed. However, an unattributed IGI entry submission records a marriage between George Livesey and Elizabeth Cooper at New Cross, Manchester on August 10th 1884 [Marriage Index: Manchester 343, 1884 (Sept)].

The 1891 Census finds him at age "29" with Elizabeth and two daughters living at 9, Water Street in Harpurhey, Manchester. He was occupied as a boot and shoe shop manager.

The 1901 Census finds him at age "39" with Elizabeth and three daughters, the latter all born in Harpurhey, living at 6, Bernard Street in Harpurhey. He was again occupied as a boot and shoe shop manager.

The 1911 Census finds the family living at 55, Church Lane in Harpurhey. George (5) was occupied as a sewing machines salesman. All three children were present, still unmarried.

He may have died aged "58" in 1920 [Death Index: Prestwich 8d 450, 1920 (March)].

In 1911 Ada (2) was working as a law clerk. Florence (1) was occupied as a telephone operator for the national telephone service. Minnie (1) was working as an office clerk for a draper's shop.
