The data shown here is as cited in the original census records, even when known from other sources to be misspelled or factually wrong.

Note: many records from the 1851 Census for Manchester and Salford were damaged by flooding during storage and do not appear in the PRO census films or index. They were subsequently transcribed by the Manchester and Lancashire Family History Society (M&LFHS) by viewing them under ultra-violet light and are available for purchase on microfiche. They include, for instance, 12 Livesey households in Salford that are absent from the PRO census films.
