Brief biography

Ann (2) Woodus was born in Fairlight, Sussex to parents Andrew (3) Woodus and his wife Susannah. She was christened on December 7th 1788 [Fairlight Parish Register].

She is believed to have been the "Ann Woodhurst" who married Stephen (2) Crisford by Licence at Pembury, Kent on May 31st 1833. The Parish Register describes her as being then "of Westfield, Sussex", and him as a widower "of this parish [Pembury]". As the record does not describe her as a widow, it appears she had not been previously married. Her use of the Woodhurst surname in 1833 would be consistent with her siblings' adoption of the same spelling by that time.

Stephen (2) had actually been born not in Pembury but at Westfield, on December 16th 1787 to parents Stephen (1) Crisford and his wife Sarah (nee) Cork, who were both born around 1763 and who both died around 1844. He was a farmer in 1814 and a miller from 1816 to 1823. He died at Owl Castle in Westfield on January 16th 1854.
