Brief biography

Caroline ("Carrie") May Woodhurst was born was born in Richmond, Wayne Co. in Indiana on January 16th 1877 to parents Theodore (1) Woodhurst and his wife Mary Virginia (nee) Alexander.

The US 1900 Census finds her at age "23" living with her parents in Richmond and occupied in her father's real estate office. It gives her birthdate as January 1877.

She married in Wayne Co. on June 30th 1909 to Louis Henry Posther [FHL: Film No. 1839232]. He was born in Indiana in the mid-1860s to German-born parents Henry and Henrietta.

The US 1910 Census finds them living at 1006, South B Street in Richmond, between South 10th and 11th Streets. Louis was occupied in a woodworking shop.

The US 1920 Census finds them living at the same address and Louis in the same occupation.

The US 1930 Census finds them living at the same address but Louis now working as a realtor in real estate, possibly aided or influenced in this by his father-in-law.

They evidently travelled to Europe later that year as they appear on the manifest of the ship RMS Mauretania which had sailed from Cherbourg to arrive at New York on August 7th 1930.

The US 1940 Census finds them living at their usual address and Louis described as a real estate agent.

Louis died at the Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond on May 27th 1946. His death certificate gives his date of birth as August 13th 1865 and the cause of death as apoplexy [stroke]. He was buried at the Earlham Cemetery on May 29th.

Carrie died at the Owens Rest Home in Richmond on July 5th 1960. Her death certificate gives her date of birth as January 16th 1877 and the cause of death as cardiac insufficiency due to hypertensive cardiovascular disease over a period of 8 years. She was buried at the Earlham Cemetery on July 7th.
