Brief biography

Darline Mary/May Woodhurst was born to parents Walter Willie Woodhurst and his wife Velma Mae (nee) Hopke. Relatives report that she was born at Perry township in Ralls Co., Missouri on November 3rd 1923. Some sources spell her first name as Darlene and most render her second name as May, although it appears to have been given as Mary when she was born.

The US 1930 Census finds her aged "6" living with her parents in Salt River, Ralls Co.

The US 1940 Census finds her aged "16" again living with her parents in Salt River.

On September 13th 1947 she married Jimmie Brown Bannister at Hannibal, Missouri.

Jimmie had been born in Monroe City, Missouri on September 23rd 1925 to parents Thomas L. Bannister and his wife Laura Belle (nee) Brown. He had served as a rifle marksman in the US Army during WW2, after enlisting on June 17th 1944 at the Jefferson Barracks in Missouri. He had seen active service in Burma and India and been awarded the AFT Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Ribbon.

Jimmie subsequently worked for 37 years at the North American Refractory in Farber, Missouri. His personal hobby was making miniature steam engines.

Darline died at Farber on August 24th 1985 and was buried at the cemetery there. She was mentioned in the obituary in 1999 of her sister Margaret Birdella.

Jimmie later remarried to Patsy Ann (nee Shoemate) Blake, who had produced at least one child by her previous marriage.

He died at the Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri on July 27th 2002, having been a resident of Mexico township. His obituary was published on July 29th in The Hannibal Courier-Post and gives no indication that he ever produced any children. He was buried at Farber Cemetery on July 30th.
