Brief biography

George Albert (2) Woodhurst was born on April 15th 1898 to parents Richard William (3) Woodhurst and his second wife Jane Ann (nee Stanford) Wright. The GRO reference is [Birth Index: Hackney 1b 572, 1898 (June)].

The 1901 Census him at age "3" living with his parents at 56, Chatham Place in Hackney.

He was admitted to Glyn Road School in Clapton on April 21st 1903, the register giving his address as 157, Glyn Road. [LMA: LCC/EO/DIV04/GLY/AD/003].

He married Lilian Elsie Tyler. The marriage certificate [Marriage Index: Hackney 1b 926, 1925 (Sept)] states that they married at the Parish Church of St. John at Hackney on August 1st 1925. He is described as a bachelor aged "27" and occupied as a french polisher, and she as a spinster aged "25". His father is described as a deceased carman and hers, Jeffrey George Tyler, as a labourer. Their place of residence is given as 48, Clarence Road in Hackney. The witnesses were James Richard Abbott and James Andrews, these being the husbands of George Albert (2)'s sisters Susannah May and Jane Maud, respectively. Clarence Road is where Richard William (3)'s step-brother Richard (1) was living in 1921.

Lilian Elsie was born on December 4th 1899 in Bethnal Green [Birth Index: Bethnal Green 1c 131, 1900 (March)].

A relative reports that George Albert (2) lived in Virginia Road, Cambridge Heath and then at Birchington House in Pembury Road (both in Hackney); he died in 1940 aged "41" in hospital from a bronchial-related disease [Death Index: Hackney 1b 747, 1940 (March)], just a few hours after his first and only child was born; some relatives were with him at the time and he knew that his wife had given birth, but he probably died before seeing the baby.

Lilian Elsie died in 1992 [Death Index: (04 De 1899) Waltham Forest 15 661, 1992 (July)].

Elsie Lilian married James Henry Mullineux in 1960 [Marriage Index: Hackney 5c 1316, 1960 (March)]. In 1964 they were living at 10, Moyers Road in Leyton.

James Henry died on July 23rd 1995 [Death Index: Waltham Forest B49 255/1B Entry No. 42, 1995 (July) - DoB 18OC1933]. He had been living at 19, Durham Avenue in Woodford Green. Probate was granted on September 14th, his effects estimated at £104,869.

Elsie Lilian died on September 6th 2004 at Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone [Death Index: Waltham Forest B66 255/1B Entry No. 213, 2004 (Sept) - DoB 22JA1940] and was buried, following cremation, at Chingford Mount Cemetery [Section D3, Grave No. 324 WF] on November 18th.
