Note 1:
The certificate of this Henry's marriage renders his surname unambiguously as Woodhurst. He is described as a widower aged 38
occupied as a cotton weaver and residing in Hurdsfield, a parish about 3 miles east of Macclesfield. His father James Woodhurst
was also a cotton weaver. The bride was Hannah (nee Broadhurst) Wandle, a widow aged 45 and also residing in Hurdsfield. Her father
William Broadhurst was a farmer. The wedding took place on August 15th 1869 at the Parish Church of Prestbury, about 3 miles NNE of
Macclesfield. The witnesses were John Sandwell and Mary Holland. No Woodhursts were living in Hurdsfield at the time of the 1861 Census.
The bride may have been the Hannah Broadhurst whose birth on June 7th 1824 was recorded at the "Formerly Mill Brow Independent" chapel
at Marple Bridge, Derbyshire, to parents William and Hannah Broadhurst [IGI: Batch C075611]. Marple Bridge is about 10 miles north of Hurdsfield.
The 1871 Census for Hurdsfield [PRO Ref: RG10 Piece 3670 Folio 67 Page 22] names him very clearly as Henry Woodhurst, a cotton weaver
born in Walsden, Lancashire. He was living at No. 18, Garden Street with Hannah, born in Sutton, Cheshire.
Note 2:
The 1871 Census for Flitcham, Norfolk [PRO Ref: RG10 Piece 1859 Folio 55 Page 14] names him as Thomas Woodhouse,
born in Grimston, Norfolk around 1847, and shows him newly married to Caroline Farram, born in Flitcham around 1852.
The certificate of their marriage at Flitcham on March 26th 1871 is hard to read, and he was probably not a true 'Woodhurst'.
His father is named on it as Charles, occupied like Thomas as a labourer.
