Brief biography

James Robert Woodhurst was born around 1856 in Abbeville, SC to parents Andrew Jackson Woodhurst and his wife Ann(e) Amanda nee Kennedy [US Census 1860].

He was born on September 26th 1856 and died on December 1st 1937 [from Bratcher]. He married Frances C. Keown - known familiarly as Fannie - around 1880. She was born on November 1st 1860 and lived to just over 100, dying on November 28th 1960 [from Bratcher]. Her father was born in Ireland and her mother in SC.

James Robert has not yet been located in the US 1880 Census.

The US 1900 Census finds him living in Abbeville township with his wife and children and occupied as a farmer. The record misspells his surname as "Woodhirst". Frances' birthdate is given, perhaps incorrectly, as November "1862".

The US 1910 Census finds him living in Abbeville township with his wife and children and occupied as a wagon retailer in the meat trade. The record misspells his surname as "Woodhearst". Also in the household was his unmarried aunt Kittie Kennedy, a seamstress aged 77, who must have been Ann Amanda's sister.

The US 1930 Census finds him living in Abbeville township with Frances and their son William Miles. He was occupied as a sexton for the Presbyterian cemetery.

James Robert and Frances were both buried at the Lebanon Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Abbeville.
