Mabel Frances Woodhurst was born in 1881 to parents Richard William (3) Woodhurst and his first wife Mary Ann Ames. Her birth certificate [Birth Index: Hackney 1b 569, 1881 (Dec)] states that she was born on November 15th 1881 at her parents' address 16, Blanchard Road in Hackney. Her father was occupied as a carman and her mother was the informant. The GRO birth index incorrectly states the register page number as 571 instead of 569.
It is suspected that, after her parents had separated, she and her younger sister Gertrude Mary were adopted by a Stevens family, as described on this page.
