Marcella May Woodhurst was born in 1890 to parents named as "Charles Woodhurst" and "Annie Woodhurst formerly Riley". The only known candidate for her father is Charles (2) Woodhurst, but no marriage of his has yet been discovered. Her birth is registered under Woodhurst only, not under Riley. Her birth certificate [Birth Index: Shoreditch 1c 133, 1890 (June)] states that she was born on May 14th 1890 at her parents' home whose address was 28, Flemming Street in Haggerston. The certificate misspells the name of this street as "Flemmings". Her father was occupied as a "blacksmith (harnessman)" and her mother was the informant.
It is suspected that she was named Marcella after a cousin or other relation of Annie, and that her middle name marked the month in which she was born.
The 1891 Census finds her at age "11 months" living with her "widowed" mother at Stanley House in Stanley Road, Leyton, Essex. She is named as "Marcella May Wood Hurst", having birthplace Shoreditch.
The 1901 Census finds her at age "10" living with her mother - now married to William Henry Hurst - at 1, Pendleston Road in Walthamstow. She is named here simply as "Marcella M. Hurst".
In 1910 she married as "Marcella M. Hurst" [Marriage Index: W. Ham 4a 423, 1910 (Sept)], to either Augustus Goode or Theodore A.E. Winckworth.
Nothing more is currently known of her.
