Brief biography

Rose Alice Woodhurst was born on February 3rd 1882 to parents Walter Charles Woodhurst and his wife Julia Caroline (nee) Perry. Her GRO birth reference is [Birth Index: Hackney 1b 593, 1882 (March)]. She was christened at St. John's Church in Hackney on February 26th, and her parents were then living at 91, Morning Lane in Hackney [LMA: Film X043 / 005, Baptism Record 1369].

The 1891 Census finds her at age 9 living with her parents and siblings at 1, Annie's Cottages, Crescent Road in Leyton.

She was not with her parents at the time of the 1901 Census. She is just possibly the "Mary" Woodhurst whom this census finds as a boarder in the household of a general dealer John Holloway and his family at 44, Leasowes Road in Leyton. Her forename may have been confused in the enumeration process, or she may have disliked her given names. Her age is given as "21" and her birthplace as Hackney. She is described as an employer in the boot trade, which at that time was also Walter Charles' occupation. A marginally possible alternative, however, is that this Mary was Gertrude Mary Woodhurst.

She married in 1903 [Marriage Index: W. Ham 4a 152, 1903 (Dec)]. The name of her husband is not yet known, but was either Alfred Childs or Stephen Joseph Stannard.

Nothing more is currently known of her.
